Co-Creating Beautiful Days provides an innovative opportunity for adults living with a disability, or as an elder, to experience Santa Fe and northern New Mexico in a more enjoyable and fulfilling way. Everyone deserves to live the best life they can. Working together, we can help make that happen.

My name is Scott Seldin. I have lived in Santa Fe since 1996. Drawing on my extensive experience as an educator, personal development coach, and workshop presenter, I developed Co-Creating Beautiful Days to enhance the lives of those who can benefit most from what I offer.

My program is designed to increase the well-being of each participant's mind, body, and spirit. We enjoy activities and experiences in Santa Fe and surrounding areas that will make for an enlivening, memorable day, which includes lunch together. Most participants choose either four or five-hour outings, though longer or shorter hours can be scheduled, as can traveling companionship.

For Adults with Disabilities

I can best convey my holistic approach and the program’s possibilities by using the example of Cooper, with whom I worked for more than two years. Cooper is a wonderful, intelligent young adult on the autism spectrum. The intention of the individualized program that Cooper and I co-created was to stimulate his mind, exercise his body, and deepen his spirituality.

Activities included hiking, drumming, lunch together, playing basketball and ice skating at the Genoveva Community Recreational Center, bowling, roller skating, miniature golf, song writing, watching movies, going to museums, art galleries, thrift stores, and record stores. Tuesdays, Cooper and I volunteered at The Food Depot in Santa Fe, helping to sort donated food that provides an average 450,000 meals per month to people in northern New Mexico. Working to feed those who are hungry helped Cooper develop empathy for others.

Cooper liked to spend time at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, so each day that we met I drove him to the cathedral and our time there, usually about fifteen minutes, had a positive and grounding effect on him.

Spirituality, of course, is a highly personal matter. I honor all faiths and spiritual paths and pursue only what a program participant wants to pursue, if anything at all.

Cooper’s mother wrote the following on my behalf:

"Scott Seldin worked with our son, Cooper, for two years, beginning in December. 2016. During that time, his responsibilities included spending time with Cooper doing a wide variety of activities, including bowling, eating lunch out, watching movies, hiking, helping Cooper seek and obtain volunteer work. During all of that time, Scott worked his own special brand of magic in helping Cooper work through some of his difficulties with social interaction and emotional development.

Scott was very patient and engaged with Cooper whenever he was with him. His experience as an academic and personal development coach at the College of Santa Fe prepared him to provide Cooper with the appropriate support for whatever Cooper was working through. The proof was in the pudding – Cooper made significant progress during his time working with Scott.

I can confidently recommend Scott in his work with young adults with disabilities."

Cooper wrote: “Scott is a great teacher. He helped me become a leader.”

I help those with disabilities enrich their life and shine their light.

Elder-Aging

If you are an elder, with or without a disability, the holistic program that I co-create with you will be similar to the program I offer those with a disability: individualized activities and discussions for mind, body, and spirit.

As we grow older, we face the daunting challenge of keeping our mind sharp and at peace, our body strong and healthy, our spirit vibrant and life-giving. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for elders, who have extensive experience and wisdom, to feel that their life has diminished importance and reduced visibility in our society. The result is often a lessening of self-worth and an increase in isolation. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Co-Creating Beautiful Days is designed to revitalize the lives of participants as they experience and enjoy the many reasons we live in Santa Fe.
